The Liberty Hill Panthers stuck close to the Hutto Hippos in the first half Friday, September 6 at home but weren’t able to take down the Hippos who came away with a big win 42-14.
Mekhi Kimble and Dajon Harrison both ran over and through the Liberty Hill defense. Kimble tallied 202 yards on 16 carries while Harrison tacked on 119 yards with only 4 carries.
The Hippos started the scoring on the night when Kimble ran in from fifteen yards out. About a minute later the Panthers answered on a Nash Robinson 49-yard scurry to tie the game at seven.
Just before the end of the 1st quarter Harrison sped his way down the field for an 88-yard touchdown giving the Hippos a 14-7 lead heading into the second frame.
A fumble by the Hippos led to Liberty Hill’s final points of the evening when Harrison fumbled at the Hippo 44, picked up by Hadley Williams and taken in for the score.
That seemed to light a fire under Hutto as they immediately recovered and QB Grayson Doggett connected with Jairiez Lambert for a 14-yard touchdown strike in the closing minute of the first half.
The Hippos rushing attack continued in the second half. Kimble early in the third trucked down field for s 53-yard touchdown putting Hutto up 28-14. Brock Bujnoch added to the score with an 8-yard touchdown with 3:52 remaining in the third. The fourth quarter was relatively quite until Kimble silenced the stands with a 95-yard scamper for a touchdown to turn out the lights on the Panthers.
The Hippos finished the night with 575 yards of total offense Doggett finished 18-30 with 223 yards passing and 1 touchdown. The tag-team of Kimble and Harrison combined for 321 yards and 4 touchdowns rushing. Three Hippo’s ended the night with 40+ yards receiving; Trey Pinneli had 5 catches for 68 yards, Kimble had 3 catches for 45 yards and Harrison also had 3 catches for 41 yards.
Travis Taylor and Michael Mason each had an interception in the Hippos road route of the Panthers.
