The rust of the closing games of 2019 melted away in the Ducks opening home game of the new decade as they took down Giddings Tuesday night 62-51.
The absence of big man Ja’Ron Carver, due to an ankle injury, didn’t seem to hurt the Ducks too much as they jumped out to a 17-7 lead in the first quarter led by Senior, Devin Garcia’s 7 points.
In the second quarter the Ducks caught fire outscoring Giddings 23-15. The Ducks fire ceased a bit after the half with Josh Blue scoring 7 of the teams 9 third quarter points. As Giddings drew closer in the game tempers began to flare a little as the Buffs managed to cut into the lead but getting no closer than seven. A sustained closing quarter kept Giddings at bay allowing the Ducks to pull away with the victory.
The game ended with every member of the team scoring. Garcia led the Ducks with 22 points. Blue added 13 points and Ja’Von Carver contributed 11 more.
Seven of the Ducks next nine games will be on the road. The first stop was Friday night at Caldwell, followed by a trip to Llano on the 13th. District play for Taylor commences on Jan. 17. on the road against Lampasas who the Ducks swept last year.
