The Taylor Lady Ducks basketball team spent the end of this past week in action at a tournament in Crockett. After day one the Lady Ducks were 1-1 defeating McCallum in the first game and then falling to Hondo in the second match on Thursday, November 21.
In the first game the Lady Ducks came out on top against the Lady Knights 56-40. Sophomore, Natalie Alderete led Taylor in scoring with 14 points, 4 assists, 2 steals and 2 rebounds. Junior, Aubrie Sanchez added to the cause with 12 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. Senior, Ashlyn Collier also reached double digits in scoring with 11 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals.
With the lead trimmed after three to 44-37 the Lady Ducks defense allowed just three points in the fourth to come away with the win.
In their second game of the day Taylor was matched up against the Hondo Lady Owls. This match proved to be a defensive battle as the Lady Ducks offense couldn’t find a groove Alderete, Sanchez and Junior, Josie Lewis each had 5 points. The defensive play by Junior Lakaysha Davis was once more a factor for the Lady Ducks as she had 8 rebounds 2 assists and a steal. The Lady Ducks were unable to get a run going and fell to Hondo 43-23 finishing the day 1-1.
Friday Taylor continued in the tournament against St. Michaels followed by host school Crockett. On Saturday Taylor was slated to conclude the tournament against Cedar Creek and Lampasas.
