All Centex banquet

Granger’s Rhinoceros, Ryan Pickett, will attend the Best of All-CenTex Preps banquet to be held Monday June 10 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Palmer Events Center in Austin. The banquet will be presented by the Austin American-Statesman and sponsored by Thomas J. Henry Law and Sames Auto.

The event honors the top performers in twenty-five varsity sports. and will celebrate the accomplishments of All-Central Texas athletes and will also be announcing the Outstanding Player of the Year in each sport, as well as Male Athlete of the Year, Female Athlete of the Year and Coach of the Year.

The event will be headlined by former Westlake football Class 5A state champion, and New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees. Brees led Westlake to the state title in 1996 and lettered in football, baseball and basketball during his time in high school. He then went on to attend Purdue University where he was a two-time Heisman finalist leading the Boilermakers to a Big Ten title and Rose Bowl appearance in 2000. He is a recipient of the Maxwell Award, which is awarded to the nations top collegiate player and Brees was also named Academic All-American Player of the Year.

Brees has spent 16 years in the NFL with the Chargers and Saints. He has been selected to 12 Pro Bowls and was named 2006 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year. In 2010 Brees led the Saints to their first championship in Super Bowl XLIV.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. The event begins at 7 p.m. General admission tickets are $50 and include dinner and the awards ceremony. Tickets are on sale now. Seating is limited.

Best of All-Centex Preps athletes will receive an invitation with instructions for claiming your free ticket.
