Sammy Herrera and Clayton Allen each scored 11 points to pace a balanced scoring attack and led the Thrall Tigers (1-2) to an 80-22 win over the McDade Bulldogs (3-1) Tuesday night.
Thrall got off to a fast start racing out to a 19-0 lead. Jake Vizena scored seven of his nine points in the opening period and Allen added eight in the opening period. Allen scored six of the Tigers final eight points in the quarter for a 27-3 lead.
Garrett Crabb opened the second period with a driving layup and follow it up with a 3-pointer from the top of the arch. Vizena, Alec Ochoa, and Stephen Graham each put points on the board and by the midway point of the period the Tigers led 38-3. Roberts hit his second 3-pointer with 4:09 to play in the half to trim the lead to 38-6, but the Tigers finished the half with a 9-0 run and took a 47-6 lead at the half.
Thrall extended its lead to 55-8 when Luke Williams dropped in a pair of 3-pointers. Then took a 61-12 lead into the fourth quarter.
Crabb extended the Tiger lead to 66-14 early in the fourth quarter hitting a layup and connecting on a 3-pointer from the top of the arch with 6:31 to play in the game. Vanleer connected on a baseline jumper for the Bulldogs, but Thrall answered with a 14-0 run led by two Herrera 3-pointers. Bryce Poling added a second-chance basket and Allen hit a 3-pointer from the right corner in the run.
The Tigers were hosting the Thrall tournament over the weekend. Pool play was scheduled for Thursday and Friday and bracket play was scheduled for Saturday.
