The Lady Ducks got off to a hot start winning their first three games at the tournament in Thrall this past weekend but on Saturday the script flipped on the Lady Ducks as they wrapped things up finishing 3-2.

Taylor opened the tournament breezing past Flatonia 58-27. Ashlyn Collier led the Lady Ducks with 13 points and Lakaysha Davis grabbed 7 rebounds in the first game.

In the first half of their second game against McGregor things were tight. The score was tied at halftime 16-16. In the second half Taylor came alive. The defense held the McGregor to just 8 points, helping the team take a 2-0 record after opening day 38-24. Collier and Natalie Alderete both scored in double digits (13) (12). Davis and Yasmine Thomas both cleaned house with 8 rebounds.

Well rested the Lady Ducks came into Fridays match against Hempstead looking ready to continue their streak. Taylor started the game with a 16-9 lead after the first quarter and carried that momentum to a 31-20 halftime lead. Again, the defense came to play. This time giving up only 7 points. The Lady Ducks ran away with their 3rd win in monster fashion 62-27. Collier had 12 points, Alderete had 10 points but Josie Lewis led Taylor with 13. Davis pulled down 12 more rebounds.

After getting out to a 3-0 start in the tournament Coach Collier said, “We are showing some signs of gelling and figuring things out. Our motto is 1-0.”

Saturday things turned for the Lady Ducks. After falling behind to Somerville early they were unable to recuperate dropping their first game 39-27. Lewis’ 6 points led Taylor on offense and Davis hauled down 15 rebounds.

Later that day Taylor found themselves battling for third place against Port Aransas who had previously taken down Thrall. The Lady Ducks controlled the game until the final frame when the Lady Marlins spiked to life outscoring the Lady Ducks 16-8. Collier led the Lady Ducks with 19 points. Davis and Alderete shared rebounding duties with 8 each.
