Ducks fall to Lockhart

The Ducks couldn’t get things going there way Friday, September 6 against the Lockhart Lions as they fell 35-0, dropping to 0-2 on the season.

The Ducks managed only 85 yards of total offense the entire game and had only 3 first downs as Lockhart’s defense stymied the Ducks. The team finished 0-9 on third downs and coughed up the ball three times

Top performers for Taylor were Senior QB Michael Schneider who was 3-6 with 12 yards passing and an interception. He also contributed 19 yards on 11 carries. Senior RB Jason Martinez led all rushers with 5 carries for 29 yards. Senior TE Reece Gensler was the top receiver with 1 catch for 5 yards.

The defense, in the beginning of the game, started off strong just as they had the week before. After the first quarter the score stood at just 7-0. Junior Ethan Sanchez led the Ducks with 9 tackles and 4 assisted tackles. Junior Daniel Mendoza contributed 5 tackles while Gensler, Ja’Von Carver, Jesse Coward, Moses Buzan, Josh Farley and Cooper Hanson each had 4 tackles.

The Lions added two more touchdowns, one in the third and another in the fourth to seal the game dropping the Ducks to 0-2 on the season.

When asked about his thoughts on the game Coach Little said, “A lot of growing pains, a lot of little things and those little things add up over the course of the game, we just have to put this one behind us and look forward to next week.”

For the thirds straight week, the Ducks will again be on the road. This time at Giddings to take on the Buffaloes whose record also stands at 0-2.
