Gwendolyn Arutherlene Kuempel, 66, of Ledbetter, passed away the evening of Thursday, January 9, 2020 at Baylor Scott and White Hospital in Brenham.
Gwendolyn was born on Sept. 27, 1953, in Austin to Frank “Popper Joe” and Gwendolyn “Winnie” Arthurline (Moffett) Penney. She married Claude Kuempel in 1982, in Buda.
She was a postal carrier for the United States Postal Service. She enjoyed fishing, going to church and assisting the youth, traveling, cooking, designing floral arrangements, gardening and spending time with her family and friends.
Gwendolyn was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Franky Penney, David Earl Penney and Gordon Penney.
Gwendolyn is survived by her husband, Claude Kuempel of Ledbetter; four children, Amy Lee Collins of Hutto, Penney Faulk of Austin, Jeff Kuempel and his wife, Shelly of Round Rock, and Brian Kuempel and his wife, Joy of Hutto; eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren, brother, Doyle Penney and his wife, Stacey of Noack; three sisters, Gwen Ola Dean and her husband, Dennis of Rockdale, Peggy McClintock and her husband Larry of Bastrop and Pamala Honeycutt and her husband, David of Round Rock; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
Visitation will be held Friday, Jan. 17, from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 18, from 7 to 8 a.m. at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. The family will be present for visitation Friday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 18, at Soul Café Church in Ledbetter with Doug Tipps officiating. Burial will follow in the Ledbetter Cemetery.
