Charles John Urbanek, Jr., 83, of Taylor passed away Monday, June 1, 2020. Charles was born Feb. 23, 1937 in Taylor.
He graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic High School in 1954. He married Barbara Stojanik of Granger in 1959, and from this union were born four children. Charles worked at Safeway until being hired at IGC in Rockdale, then Alcoa where he continued to work through various incarnations, until he retired in 2003. He worked on his farm tirelessly until he was no longer able to, hunting and fishing whenever possible.
Charles was a devout Catholic and a lifelong worshipper at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He was in the National Guard, a volunteer for the Taylor Fire Department, then Thrall and Thorndale, an avid sportsman, a loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle. He loved to dance, loved children and always had a smile and a handshake ready for every person he met. He was a simple man but lived a full life.
