The Taylor Press welcomes new senior reporter Fernando Castro.

As 2020 began, the Taylor Press welcomed new Senior Reporter Fernando Castro to the staff. Castro has previously been working for Granite Publications as a page designer for numerous affiliated newspapers and looks forward to bringing his journalism talents back to the main stage.

Born in Rockford, IL in 1985, Castro spent the latter years of his childhood in Thrall where he attended high school and was in marching band, National Honor Society and competed in numerous UIL competitions. He then attended Texas State University in San Marcos where he graduated with a degree in Mass Communication-Print Journalism in 2007.

Castro began his career under the Granite umbrella in April 2008 at The Madisonville Meteor as a sports reporter. After two years he then worked for The Colorado County Citizen, as managing editor before returning to the Meteor in 2011 before getting the call to become a page designer.

Castro was transferred to the Taylor Press on New Years Day 2020. Upon his arrival Castro said, “I hope to use my skills where they are most helpful.”

Castro has been rewarded for his talents with numerous TPA awards for writing, page design and photography. In his spare time, Castro enjoys video gaming and going to the gym.

“We are happy to have Fernando as a part of the team. He brings experience and a hard-working mentality that will be an asset to the Taylor Press,” said Jason Hennington, publisher.
