Old Taylor High, known to many as either their high school or their middle school, is the topic of discussion on season two of the Taylor ISD YouTube series, Taking Flight. Property owners Cliff and Kaitlin Olle talk about the renovations that are turning classrooms at the Seventh Street campus into apartments, a restaurant, an event center and businesses.

When the school opened in the fall of 1923, it was described as Taylor’s modern two-story fire proof building, one of the best in Texas. During the interview, the Olles talk about the project’s historic designation, and restoring as much of the original essence of the building as possible.

“Our goal when you walk into that hallway (of the main building) is to essentially feel like you are walking back into a 1920s high school,” Cliff Olle says in the video.

After the interview, several former students and staff members share stories from their time at the campus. The final segment of the video includes historical information about purchasing the land, construction and the first year in the new building.

The Taking Flight series, as well as other videos produced by Taylor ISD, may be found on the Taylor ISD YouTube channel, Taylor ISD Videos.
