Time is running out for players to get a shot at a championship ring. Wednesday, July 10 is the last day to sign up for the Taylor Press 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament. The two-day event is scheduled for July 13-14 at Taylor High School.
“We just want people to come out, compete and have a good time,” said Jason Hennington, tournament director.
The entry fee for the tournament is $50 per team with up to four players. All teams are guaranteed to play both days.
“We cannot allow teams to sign up the day of the tournament this year,” Hennington said. “Teams should get signed up soon as possible.”
Registration forms are available at the Taylor Press, 211 W. Third St., and the Taylor Press 3-on-3 Facebook page.
Teams can also register online and pay prior to the deadline. To register online, go to https://playpass.com/taylor-press-3-on-3-basketball-tournament/basketball-tournament-a12550/register.
Winners of the event receive championship rings and other prizes.
“We have newly designed rings, and special, custom rings for the Shining Stars,” Hennington said. “In addition, we have some new sponsors and raffle prizes.”
While he would not reveal everything, Hennington said some of the raffle prizes include Bluetooth speakers, a game system, a 32-inch TV, Schlitterbahn tickets and an autographed piece of memorabilia from the San Antonio Spurs.
The Shining Stars, a local non-profit for adults with special needs, operate the concession stand. The Shining Stars will also play a series of games.
The annual event is a fundraiser for two scholarships, which will go to graduating Taylor High School athletes in the class of 2020.
This year, proceeds from the tournament will go toward two local scholarships and a donation will be made to the American Legion to send one high school student to Boys State.
The age groups for the tournament are 11-14, 15-17 and 18 and older, anyone who has played varsity level basketball will play in this division. There are divisions for both men and women.
There will be referees on both days of the tournament this year, along with the three-point, free throw contest and a raffle.
