A few businesses were left without water along Main Street between Lake Drive and Twelfth Street after a water pipe broke Monday night.
According to Public Works Director Jim Gray, a 12-inch water line broke and split the pipe along the main line and a fire hydrant line. He said the break was most likely caused by old age.
Gray said the line broke Monday night, and city crews were out all day Tuesday fixing the problem.
“We have funds for water line repair in the budget,” he said. “We didn’t have to go into our reserves to cover the cost of this repair.”
Since the break was along a major highway in the city, cones and barricades were set up to help control traffic.
Gray said no homes were affected by the water break, but businesses from Ferrari's to CVS on the west side of the street were without water.
“We supplied them with water and did what we could to help and give assistance from the city,” he said.
At press time Tuesday, crews were still out working on the water line break.
