A fire burned Thursday evening near Walburg with plumes of smoke viewable from at least Taylor and Hutto.

On Sept. 10 at 5:17 p.m., the Williamson County Sheriff's Office announced that the department along with fire and hazmat units were responding to a chemical plant fire on FM 1105 south of Walburg. The fire was reportedly at a facility for CPI Products, a plastic fabrication company.

A shelter-in-place order was issued for a one-mile radius. FM 1105 was closed at FM 971 and County Road 153 Spur. The order was lifted at 8:30 p.m.

There are no reported injuries from the blaze, which happened at an empty building according to the sheriff’s office. Firefighters continued to work hot spots throughout the night.
