He’d stolen the car he was driving
A Bryan man, driving a car stolen out of College Station, was arrested by Taylor police last week after he allegedly broke into the Enterprise Rent-A-Car business on Hwy 79 west of Taylor.
At around 9:30 p.m. last Tuesday, Taylor police officers responded to an alarm at the business.
When they arrived, they found a white 2007 Dodge Caliber parked on the west-bound shoulder of the highway, with its flashers on, as if the car had broken down.
They also saw a man later identified as Christopher Carney, 31, of Bryan, Tx., walking away from the rear of the building.
He had a small cut on one of his fingers.
Police investigated and found that the glass of the front door had been shattered. Carey had several stolen items in his possession when police arrived.
“He’d apparently rummaged through the building and several of the rental cars,” said Taylor Police Commander Joseph Branson.
Further investigation revealed that the car Carey drove was stolen out of College Station.
Carey was arrested and charged with Burglary of a Building and Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle. Both charges are state jail felonies.
Carey was booked into the Williamson County Jail and where he remains under a $15,000 bond.
