Upgrades at Taylor Regional and Doak Street parks might have a designer in place this week.
The Taylor City Council will be having their first meeting of the month Thursday, Feb. 13. The council will be considering a proposal from SEC Planning for professional design services for the Taylor Regional Park(TRP)/Doak Street Park project.
The project is slated to include additional soccer fields, batting cages, shade structures, trails and a fishing pier to Taylor Regional Park, as well as renovating TRP’s football field for soccer usage. The project also includes adding a playground at the ball fields on Doak Street.
In 2017, the City Council approved an application of a Texas Parks and
Wildlife Outdoor Recreation Grant for TRP/Doak Street improvements and entered into a development agreement with Valero. As part of the agreement, Valero agreed to provide $500,000 for one or more quality of life projects.
The City Council approved a list of projects in September 2019 and gave staff direction on what projects to complete, including Taylor Regional Park and Doak Street Park improvements.
If approved, the agreement between the city and SEC Planning will include design development, construction documents and contract administration.
Also on the agenda for Thursday’s meeting, the city will receive an update regarding the upcoming 2020 Census and appoint members to the 2020 Complete Count Committee for Taylor. The committee would focus on increasing awareness and motivate residents to respond to the 2020 Census. The U.S Census Bureau has stated that the organization has found greater involvement with schools, faith-based organizations, businesses and other key stakeholders lead to better results.
Other items on the agenda include:
• receiving the Taylor Chamber of Commerce quarterly report for October-December 2019;
• receiving an update on emergency repairs of Bull Branch sewer line and County Road 398 water line;
• considering authorizing the city manager to execute contracts for consulting services for the Comprehensive Plan and Impact Fee Study; and
• discussing and possible action to appoint members of the Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee.
The council meeting will commence at 6 p.m. at city hall, 400 Porter St., in the council chamber. Those who wish to share their thoughts and comments should sign up no later than 5:45 p.m.
