After discussion and required public hearings, the Taylor City Council is expected to set the tax rate at Thursday’s regularly scheduled meeting.

The upper limit of the ad valorem tax rate is $0.809469 per $100 valuation, which was decided in a 3-1 vote during an Aug. 8 meeting.

The rollback tax rate, the rate voted by council, is a calculated maximum rate allowed by law without voter approval. Last year’s rate was $0.788000 per $100 valuation.

The proposed budget for FY 2019-2020 includes the one-cent increase, which should produce more revenue in the budget.

Also, during the meeting, the council will hold a public hearing to introduce an ordinance for voluntary annexation by Haynie Consulting LLC, annexing a tract of land approximately 11.93 acres located across from Taylor High School on FM 973.

Other agenda items include:

  • An update on legislation from the 86th Texas Legislature that impacts the city's Development Services processes

  • An update on the neighborhood cleanup

  • Consider appointment of city of Taylor representatives to the CAPCOG General Assembly

  • Consider approving Professional Services Agreement with On Technology Consultants for the Police Department.

The full agenda is available on the city’s website,

The council will meet at 6 p.m. at city hall. The council will hear public comments prior to the meeting but citizens should sign up by 5:45 p.m. if they wish to speak.
