A local event shared across the nation will be skipped this year.

On Sept 15, Taylor city staff announced that the Taylor Police Department had canceled the 2020 National Night Out. The event was canceled due to concerns from the COVID-19 pandemic.

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make areas safer and caring places to live. The organization in charge of the movement aims to enhance the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Each year, the night has offered an opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.

The city said staff looks forward to holding National Night Out in 2021.
