When several pre-k classes at TH Johnson Elementary decided to learn about money, they began with the concept of earning a salary. Students earned paper pennies for overall good behavior and exhibiting the 7 Habits of Happy Kids which is based on the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.

The four year-olds also came up with an idea for a business to sell either a product or a service. Then they held an economics fair to open their businesses and shop at classmates’ stores. They used the paper pennies they had earned to make their purchases,

Store ideas included selling toy cars, candy, cupcakes, tattoos, glow sticks, hand massages, art and photos. In addition to learning money concepts and math skills, parents also participated in the project and were invited to attend the event.
