The fifth annual Bill Pickett Christmas Toy Drive begins Thursday with an event from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Texas Beer Company. The kick-off event will be held Dec. 5, the legendary cowboy’s 149th birthday.
This is a secret Santa charity effort to provide toys to children in Taylor. There will be stockings with specific requests from local children. The goal is to help make Christmas a little brighter for local families.
Last year, the Bill Pickett Educational Foundation collected over 500 toys to help over 150 children enjoy a happier Christmas.
This toy drive will last for three weeks, and the Texas Beer Company will provide a free beer to anyone who donates a toy. An additional drop-off point for the toy drive is the Taylor Press, 211 W. Third Street.
Volunteers are needed for a gift-wrapping party scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 22 at 2 p.m. at the Texas Beer Company. Toys will be delivered by Christmas Eve.
