Thrall 2019-20 football team ready for scrimmage

A Thrall coach is getting reassigned to be the school's new athletic director and head football coach.

During the Thrall ISD school board meeting Thursday, April 16, Rick Porter was chosen to lead the school's sports program and Tigers football team. The motion passed 5-1-1.

A recommendation made by Superintendent Tommy Hooker was accepted for the reassignment of Rick Porter as the A.D. and head football coach, along with a continuation of a term teacher/coach assignment with a salary adjustment discussed during executive session.

Board President Bryan Holubec, Secretary Rodrigo Reyes and trustees Chris Meyer, Sonny Chandler and Wesley West voted for the motion. Trustee Brian Drummond opposed the motion, and Mat Poling abstained.

Porter has been a math teacher and coach at the district. He succeeds Jason Cole, who stepped down as Thrall ISD athletic director and head football coach March 20.
