GRANGER – The Granger High School varsity football team handled business at home as the Lions destroyed the Milano High School Eagles 51-14 at home on senior night.

Although head coach Stephen Brosch and his squad faced a 7-0 deficit early in the game, it was all Granger the rest of the way. After a 38-yard touchdown pass from Lions senior quarterback Chase Edwards to senior tight end Thomas Youngblood knotted the score at 7-7, Granger got a three-yard touchdown run from senior running back Isaac Lizardo to take a 14-7 lead over the Eagles at the end of the first quarter.

The Lions’ offense took it to the Eagles in the second quarter as Lizardo scored on a 20-yard pass from Edwards, a two-yard touchdown run from Edwards and a 74-yard touchdown pass from Edwards to senior running back Jayven Diaz for a 35-7 lead over Milano at halftime.

The third quarter saw Granger build on its already large lead, as the Lions got a nine-yard touchdown pass from Edwards to senior wide receiver Lucas Matta, a safety recorded by senior linebacker Fernando Botello and a one-yard touchdown run by sophomore quarterback Wyatt Rochner to maintain a 51-7 lead at the end of the third quarter.

It was another great night for Edwards as he threw for 204 yards on 11-of-17 completion attempts for four touchdowns through the air and one on the ground.

The Lions improved to 7-2 overall and 3-1 in 2A-2 District 13 play with the lopsided victory over the Eagles. Granger will travel Friday, Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. to face a winless Bartlett High School team in the regular-season finale.
