Temple College is working on ways to support current and potential students. One way is an open house to provide information about the school, campuses and programs.

An open house in Taylor will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. April 5, at the campus in downtown Taylor.

“This is an opportunity for the community or whoever, for anybody to come and check out the facilities and see what we have to offer,” said Billie Logiudice, HSI STEM advisor, “sign up for classes or get financial aid help.”

Guests will get a tour of the campus and see labs and get to meet advisors and staff members.

“There will be representatives from every department, like professors,” Loguidice said.

Workforce Solutions will have representatives, as well as someone from the Temple College student food pantry. There will also be a raffle for a free class.

The event will also showcase the programs available at the Taylor campus, including electro-mechanical engineering and computer-aided design and drafting.

“Those two programs are specifically to support the Samsung industry,” Loguidice said. “It’s really building the workforce for Samsung while giving people sometimes a change of outcome for themselves.”

Medical programs include phlebotomy and clinical medical assistance.

“At this campus, we have all of the general education,” she said. “At this campus, you could walk away with your associate’s degree in general studies, and or, you could participate in one of those certificate programs.”

Although Temple College partners with Legacy Early College High School, Loguidce said the programs are not just for high school students.

“We’re just trying to be flexible in, ‘how can we support this community?’” she said. “Sometimes, people forget about the non-traditional students.”

Open house events will also be held at the Temple campus from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 4 , and the Hutto campus from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, April 6.

“At Temple College we’re doing everything we can to make sure college and training is accessible to everyone,” said Dr. Christy Ponce, Temple College President, in a press release. “We are here to help students earn college degrees, certificates, and earn industry recognized credentials to help move them into the workforce. These open houses provide great opportunities for students to meet with faculty and staff, learn about our 75 plus programs and explore career opportunities.”
