Local author and Hutto resident Dr. April Willis is now accepting applications for a scholarship available to Central Texas high school seniors.

Willis, who has lived in Hutto for five years, completed her superintendent internship under Dr. Killian at Hutto ISD in 2015, and currently serves as President of the School Board for NYOS Charter School in Austin. She also works as the Director of Business Opperations at a public Montessori Charter School in Austin.

The Willis Scholarship is a $750 investment in a student who can prove he/she will make a difference in the world by leading with confidence and integrity. Using the guidance of the book, “Overeducated & Under Experienced: Navigating a Saturated Workforce” by Dr. April Willis, students will be able to focus on excelling academically in order to ultimately achieve professional success.

One $750 scholarship will be awarded to a qualified student who meets all of the eligibility requirements, completes the application and completes the required activities in their entirety.

The applicant must be a senior who will attend a college or university in the fall of 2019 and have a grade point average of at least 2.60.

The scholarship is available to students from the following school districts:

• Taylor lSD

• Hutto lSD

• Round Rock lSD

• Pflugerville lSD

• Georgetown ISD

The scholarship will be given in the form of a check to the student's university in his/her name and applied to the student's tuition. If the tuition has already been paid in full, then the student will receive a refund check from the university and may use that money to purchase textbooks, supplies, or other college-related expenses.

To apply for the scholarship, students must complete an application and complete a specific list of activities from the Dr. Willis’ book.

Each activity response should be typed into a document. All activities should be saved as one document. Only PDF and document files will be accepted.

Incomplete applications will not be considered for the scholarship.

Completed applications can be emailed to

The deadline for applications is Friday, April 5.
