Wall scored 14 runs on 17 hits as the Hawks soared past Thrall, 14-2, Thursday afternoon in the Class 3A-Division II state championship game at Dell Diamond in Round Rock. The game ended after five innings because of the 10-run rule.
Thrall, in its first year in 3A after moving up from 2A, finished 31-7-1. The Tigers reached the state final for the first time since 1998.
Wall (31-6) was led by junior pitcher Gage Reichenau. He surrendered two runs off of three hits.
The Hawks scored four runs in the top of the first and never looked back. Thrall scored a run in the bottom of the opening frame on an RBI double from Gus Navejas, but couldn't get any closer than 4-1.
Wall scored a run in the second, seven runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth to increase the lead to 14-1. In the fourth, the Hawks used a trio of two-run singles to go up by double digits.
The Tigers didn't go away quietly. Nick Treuter and Maverick McAllister hit back-to-back triples to add a run in the bottom of the fifth.
Six Thrall seniors played in their final high school contest on Thursday. They were McAllister, Treuter, Ty Bradford, Hayden Heselmeyer, Landon Gregory and Ethan Boecker.
